Can Wildlife Cause Damage to Your Home? You’d Better Believe It!

30 March 2020

They’re so cute and cuddly, right? Raccoons and the dark rings around their eyes, nervous little squirrels and skunks that can brew up quite a stink … but can these animals cause serious damage to your home? Don’t be fooled by the size of these and other wildlife because what they lack in size they more than make up for with their claws and teeth!

Our Wildlife Damage Gallery

Before we get into how animals can damage your home, check out the following gallery …

How Wildlife Damage Your Home

Shelter is one of the necessities of life, and that goes for animals just as much as it does for people.

Wildlife certainly look for a safe place to build a home. But when their babies are born, they’re often immobile so when on the lookout for a new home, raccoons, squirrels, skunks, opossums or other such animal are looking for protection from predators, too.

Animals can get quite aggressive when they’re looking for somewhere to build a home because finding a good place for their babies can literally be the difference between life and death.

These wildlife have razor sharp teeth, strong claws and some of these animals are quite dexterous so plastic vents, covers and caps on the exterior of homes are often no match. It’s not uncommon to see soffit and eavestrough being ripped from the side of a roof or holes chewed through the wood so these animals can get into your attic and walls.

Protecting Your Home from Wildlife

When we want to protect our customer’s homes from damage caused by squirrels, raccoons, skunks, opossums and other animals, we use metal mesh securely fastened over all possible entry points. No matter how strong their bite or how sharp their teeth, they can’t chew their way through the metal. And we take care to make sure it’s well secured so they can’t pull it off.

If you want to be preventative about getting your home protected before animals do expensive damage, be sure to check out our Pest Guard Home Protection Program, and the Pest Guard Wildlife Exclusion Option. Together, they give you the peace of mind that no matter what critters come creeping around your home, you’ll be fully protected!

And if you have any other pest control or wildlife removal needs, always remember …
